So, I love Asian rice crackers and I decided to take a stab at making my own!
Basic ingredients:
Brown rice flour (just put brown rice in a coffee grinder or blender/vitamix)
Sesame seeds
Tamari / Bragg's
Honey
Water
We'll see how they turn out, I'll post pictures/video when I've figured out the proportions and such. I haven't forgotten about RawKu!! Just been super busy settling into my new home. But I can't wait to make a video in my awesome kitchen! Check back later :)
UPDATE:
Here are the finished crackers. Sadly, they were rather unsuccessful... If I attempt these again I may soak the brown rice flour or something. They definitely came out crunchy! But not in the good way hah. It was like eating uncooked rice :\ I may try these *unraw* by cooking the rice first then sticking it in a food processor? Shrug. I'll get it one of these days.. Maybe... Then again they are so cheap that I could just continue buying them instead......
Until next time!

Ginger miso salad dressing
Yields 1 1/4 cups
Ingredients:
1/2 cup miso (I use brown rice miso for its lighter color)
1/2 cup water
2 teaspoon sesame oil
1 Tablespoon rice wine vinegar
1 teaspoon honey (or other sweetener)
2 inch piece of ginger (no need to peel)
1 clove of garlic
Juice from 1 lime (please no bottled lime juice!)
Splash of Bragg's / Nama Shoyu / soy sauce
Put all ingredients into a blender and blend until the consistency is smooth. The flavors will be pungent if you eat it immediately, so let it sit in refrigerator so that flavors can mix and mingle and have a little dance party. It'll be worth it! This is a great way to zest up salads, or try it over cold soba noodles for a quick and easy lunch. No matter how you use it, I recommend sprinkling on some black sesame seeds to give your meal a little extra flare. Enjoy :)
Tip: Instead of just throwing in a big hunk of ginger, use a large knife to shave the ginger into slices to make blending easier. I always have ginger root on hand in the freezer and just shave it or grate it directly from the whole root. Lasts longer too!

Sorry, guys!!
I'm sorry I've been so neglectful!! My life has been crazy busy! Got back in town, was unpacking and cleaning, dealing with tax stuff (no worries, I got an extension), was attempting to buy a condo (which I've decided against now), catching up on work, and now I'm looking for a place to rent! Whew!! Hopefully I can get a video up soon :) Any suggestions?
The pickles I made before my trip didn't turn out like I'd hoped... They were mushy instead of crispy :-\ Yeah, not so nice. I hadn't added any vinegar because I wanted to try and sour them strictly using fermentation. I've started pickling another batch of cucumbers and okra (this time with some apple cider vinegar) that I will try to show you this weekend with a video.
Dehydrated watermelon turned out great! Thinly slicing them produced the best, driest, chewiest candies. It was like homemade watermelon Starburst!! Quite good :-D And a great way to use up and store watermelon! I also stuck chunks into the blender (or could use a juicer) for fresh watermelon juice. Can make watermelon gazpacho, sauces, salsa..... The possibilities are endless!
Inspired by my raw buddy, Kim, I aspired to make stuffed mushrooms. Mine, however, were quite dry :( I'll try again another time and try to replicate her secret to success ;)
Again, I'm sorry I haven't posted in a really really long time. I can't promise I'll be much better for the next month as I'm still trying to find a place to live. I'll be in limbo land at my parent's until I figure my life out! But I'll try :) Adios for now!

Ahh, la France!
Ahhh. So nice and relaxing to be in France. The food here is so amazingly fresh! Everything just tastes better here!!
Cavaillon melon. Smaller and sweeter than cantaloupe. Sooooooooo refreshing and tasty!
Fresh figs. Possibly one of my favorite fruits! Mmm, c'est magnifique!
Cerises! Mom tried to save some cherries for me; however, they're really best in May. Therefore, these are looking rather lackluster compared to their normal mien. She also froze some and they are wonderful to have on hot days :)
No food processor or blender here, but I decided to make some pesto anyway. Used a mortar and pestle to grind pine nuts, garlic, basil, spinach, olive oil, and pepper. I like adding spinach to stretch the recipe while still maintaining the color. I'll be putting adding this to gnocci later on, maybe for dinner tonight.
Venasque now has a market on Friday evenings! In such a small town I am surprised they have enough business, but turns out our little village gets a lot of action nowadays!
Bought some goodies at the market and had some people over for a feast! I know this is my raw food blog and not all of this food is raw, but it's fresh and local and organic and delicious! We had Cavaillon melon, arugula salad with beets and sun-dried tomatoes, Mom's homemade ratatouille, and Swiss chard ravioli! I was pleasantly surprised when we found that this pasta was "sans fromage" (cheeseless) so we snatched some up! The French word for chard is "blette" so we had fun saying it hah. We dressed it with olive oil and sage, delicious!!
Went to Pernes-les-Fontaine for their Saturday market. This is a great market, lots of good vendors and fresh produce. This one vendor has more stuff than all the vendors at Morningside/Decatur!
Apricots muscat. These are like little fruit gems!! SOOOOOOOOOO delicious!!!
Seriously? Look at this spread! Apricots muscat, figs, plus, heirloom tomatoes, bell pepper, zucchini, nectarines, strawberries, and Cavaillon melon. Life is gooooooood :)

Raw food in London!
I found a natural foods store in London!! It was right near where I lived for 3 weeks in 2007, near the Russell Square stop on the tube. I don't think it was there then, although I wasn't really health-conscious then so it's quite possible that I just never noticed it. Prices on their own seemed reasonable; however, with the dollar being so much lower in value than the pound I didn't buy anything there. Good selection and assortment though, especially for a relatively small store. They had a cold/hot salad bar too with lots of yummy lookin things.
I ate a lot of salad before my flight on Tuesday but haven't been too raw since... However, I am looking forward to being in France tomorrow and soaking in all the fresh, wonderful, delicious produce!! More to come soon :)
